Dubai places off hearth on ship in Jebel Ali Port

DUBAI: Dubai authorities’s media workplace stated Thursday a hearth aboard a ship within the emirate’s Jebel Ali Port was extinguished after it had been sparked in a single day by an explosion in a container.

The blaze within the Center East’s largest transhipment hub was attributable to a container holding flammable materials, Dubai Media Workplace (DMO) Director-Normal Mona Al Marri advised Al Arabiya tv, describing it as a “normal accident”.

DMO stated there have been no casualties and officers advised Al Arabiya the crew had been evacuated.

Police in Dubai, a regional enterprise hub and one among seven emirates making up the United Arab Emirates stated the blast may need been attributable to “friction or high temperatures” throughout sizzling summer season climate, Al Arabiya reported.

UAE Power and Infrastructure Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei stated all logistical operations at Jebel Ali Port had resumed. “Our priority now is to ensure that the accident will not impact the marine environment,” he stated in a ministry assertion.

The ministry named the ship Ocean Dealer. The Dubai authorities earlier stated it had the capability to hold 130 containers. Reuters couldn’t instantly contact the ship’s homeowners.

In a single day, DMO had posted footage of water being pumped to douse flames. Witnesses in residential areas as far-off as 22 km (14 miles) from Jebel Ali had heard the explosion.

The DMO stated the vessel had been getting ready to dock at a berth “away from the port’s main shipping line”.

State-run DP World, the proprietor of Jebel Ali Port which dealt with 13.5 million containers in 2020, had no fast remark when contacted by Reuters.
